The Chorale was formed in 2007 as a result of very successful Mozart Requiem and Handel’s Messiah performances the previous year. It was founded and originally directed by William Gorton, then Director of Music at Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church in Ashland, Virginia. The Chorale is excited to bring great music to the Central Virginia region.
Currently the Central Virginia Masterworks Chorale is under new artistic director Ryan Tibbetts and remains a fresh and visionary group of between 60 and 70 singers from the Central Virginia area. The Chorale begins its fifteenth year this fall (2022), and looks forward to adding new members every season.
We are a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. Please consider how you might support this effort with your participation as a singer or benefactor.
Our Mission
To create outstanding performances of choral music through community participation, education and inspiration. We seek to foster greater appreciation of the choral art and to enrich the communities of Central Virginia. Our repertoire is comprised of larger choral works with orchestra, such as Vivaldi’s Gloria, Masses of Mozart and Haydn, and other works of merit, including new works and anthems from choral traditions old and new.
